May Day Strike & Boycott Against Transportation & Delivery Gig Corporations

On May 1, 2024—International Workers’ Day—rideshare and delivery drivers around the world are going on strike to demand dignity, fair pay, and worker protections in the gig economy.

Gig corporations make billions from our labor while keeping wages low, hiding how pay is calculated, and punishing workers with unfair deactivations. They treat us as disposable—but we are essential.

By turning off our apps and calling for a public boycott, we show our collective power and demand:

OUR DEMANDS

  • FAIR PAY – Drivers must receive a guaranteed livable wage that covers not just per-mile and per-minute rates, but also vehicle maintenance, gas, insurance, and return-trip mileage. No more unpaid deadhead miles—if we drive somewhere, we should be paid to get back.
  • ALGORITHMIC TRANSPARENCY – Full disclosure of how fares, driver pay, and deactivations are determined. No more hidden fees and manipulative pricing.
  • JOB SECURITY & PROTECTION FROM UNFAIR DEACTIVATIONS – No more getting fired by an app with no recourse. Workers must have due process and clear guidelines for terminations.
  • WORKERS’ RIGHTS & PROTECTIONS – The right to organize, collectively bargain, and access labor protections such as health and safety standards, benefits, and legal recourse.
  • SAFE WORKING CONDITIONS & AN END TO EXPLOITATION – No more driving for hours with no guarantee of income or safety.
  • FULL RIGHTS FOR IMMIGRANT WORKERS – Immigrant drivers face disproportionate exploitation in the gig economy. They must have equal labor rights, protections from retaliation, and the freedom to organize.
  • DEFEND PUBLIC SECTOR JOBS – Public worker layoffs push more people into gig work, lowering wages and increasing precarity. We demand an end to federal job cuts and the erosion of stable employment.

We call on individual drivers, driver organizations, non-driver organizations, and supporters to sign on and pledge their support for this May Day strike and boycott.

What happens next?

After signing, you will:

  • Get connected with local organizers.
  • Receive strike updates and action toolkits.
  • Be invited to WhatsApp and Facebook groups to coordinate with other drivers.

If you’re in the U.S. South, we will connect you with existing driver organizations or help you start one in your area.

MAY DAY 2024 – TOGETHER, WE STRIKE FOR OUR RIGHTS!
